These delicate flat slippers feature lavender purple silk satin uppers with cream silk lining visible at the openings. The construction shows typical 1830s characteristics with very low-cut vamps that would expose much of the foot, straight-lasted soles without left-right differentiation, and minimal heel height. The silk satin appears to have a lustrous finish typical of formal footwear. The toe shape is gently rounded rather than pointed, consistent with Romantic period preferences. Cream ribbon ties or elastic would have secured these to the foot. The lightweight construction and precious silk material indicate these were designed for indoor dancing or formal evening occasions rather than outdoor wear.
