A two-part hydraulic metal mould used in millinery production, consisting of a concave base die and a matching convex press die. The mould features deeply carved radiating flutes that create a shell or fan-like pattern when pressed into fabric or leather. The base shows substantial wear and patina consistent with industrial use, while the bronze-toned press component displays sharp, precise ridges. This tool would have been used to emboss decorative elements onto hat trimmings, creating dimensional rosettes or shell motifs popular in late Victorian millinery. The hydraulic mechanism allowed for consistent pressure application, enabling mass production of uniform decorative elements.
